General Orthopedics

General orthopedic conditions can often be treated non-surgically. For example, arthritis may be treated with medication, injections, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications before surgery is considered. Simple, non-traumatic fractures tend to heal on their own. Sprains and strains typically get better with rest, hot and cold therapy, gentle stretching, and progressive strengthening exercises.

ARTHRITIS TREATMENT

Whether mild, moderate, or severe, joint pain and stiffness from osteoarthritis (i.e. "wear-and-tear" arthritis) or inflammatory arthritis (e.g. rheumatoid, psoriasis, lupus) can be troublesome or even debilitating. With a comprehensive, holistic approach to diagnosis and treatment, Southeast Michigan Center for Orthopedics offers patients a wide range of non-surgical, minimally invasive, and surgical strategies to help to relieve your arthritis pain, regain mobility, and restore function.

KNEE & HIP REPLACEMENT

Arthroplasty (Total knee and total hip replacement) is surgery intended to relieve pain and to restore function to an arthritic joint. The most common reason for joint replacement is that other treatments (weight loss, medicines, and injections) have failed to relieve arthritis-associated pain. The goal of joint replacement is to relieve pain, improve quality of life, and maintain or improve function.

Hyaluronic acid injections

Wear-and-tear of the knee joint, aka osteoarthritis, affects millions of Americans, though many patients don't need and/or want surgery. An effective alternative treatment is a type of knee injection called hyaluronic acid injection. Many patients who receive this treatment report tremendous pain-relief such that surgery is unnecessary. Southeast Michigan Center for Orthopedics can offer this treatment using a "nearly painless" injection technique.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

The use of platelet rich plasma (PRP), derived from converting a portion of the patient’s own blood to a high-platelet concentration, can be used to promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints. Southeast Michigan Center for Orthopedics can offer this promising new treatment option for:

  • Arthritis/joint pain

  • Ligaments or tendons injuries, e.g. tennis elbow)

  • Improved healing after surgery, e.g. meniscus tear repair
